Welcome to the “Color of Love”, a series for the month of February featuring guest artists and other surprises. A series of colorful ideas, expressions and artistic views!
Please welcome todays guest of honor, Debora McDell, Debora is a long-time friend, blogger and she works at my favorite place, the Memorial Art Gallery, as the Coordinator of Community Programs and Outreach. I couldn’t dream of having a better job than working in the same building with original masterpieces from Monet and Whistler, just to name a few!
Last Saturday, I posted a few delicious treats for Valentine’s Day and asked to share your favorite recipes, Debora immediately sent me her cookie recipe. She found it in the local newspaper many years ago and has become a family favorite. I can’t wait to try them!
Barb’s Cherry Kisses
1 cup butter softened
¼ cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
1 8-ounce jar maraschino cherries, drained and coarsely chopped
¾ cup chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 300º F
In a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium low, cream butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy. In a medium bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and blend until just mixed. With the mixer on low, blend in cherries and walnuts.
With your hands, roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 20-30 minutes, until lightly golden brown. Roll hot cookies in confectioners’ sugar and cool on rack.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies.
Thank you Debora for sharing this delightful treat with us!
